Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz Coming to a Revolution Near You…

I’m sure you’re as big a fan of throwing a monkey in a hamster ball and sending him or her around in a dizzying array of frustrating platform levels.  No doubt you experienced multiple frustrations as monkey after monkey went plummeting to their death.

Then the 360 arrived, and with it:  Marble Blast Ultra.  No, there were no squeaky primates in those marbles, just shiny globules of pure ball-bearing business.  But, marble blast had one thing crucial to the future of the spherical rolling-platforming genre…  the jump.

Well, Sega initiated their response to this live arcade nonsense with the announcement of “Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz” for the upcoming Nintendo Revolution.

We know the game will feature all new play control designed to take advantage of the Revolution controller, and will for the first time in Monkey Ball history, allow for jumping, by flicking the controller in an upward direction.  While, granted, this probably just means that your monkey will go spiraling out of control even more often, it certainly will, as Sega says: add “another dimension in which to expand the Super Monkey Ball gameplay experience and allows gamers a whole new way to interact with the franchise; this time in true three-dimensional fashion.”

As always though, it will be the party games that will make or break this game, and Sega has promised not to disappoint in this department either, though they have only provided vague possibilities such as a ring toss or whack-a-mole games.
