Net neutrality

Every so often the news media grabs onto an issue that has a potential impact on the public, generating an unprecedented amount of buzz, and usually spurring lots of debate and saber rattling in congress, hopefully piggy-backing off of the constituent grabbing concerns.  The latest buzzword ripped from the headlines and mired in a heap of mystery is “net neutrality.”

April showers bring…

…May updates?  Man, that’s rough material.  Anywho, Joystiq (and most of the rest of the World Wide Web of Gaming) has posted a story about the new Spring Update for the 360.  I posted an article awhile back about some of the things that I wanted Microsoft to update, and I’ll update it with the things they’ve added/enhanced.

This is a HUGE boost for the folks in Redmond, and I am wildly impressed by their attention to the fans.  There are still a few things that would catapult the Xbox 360 to stardom in my mind, but this is a great step forward.  To be honest, even Sony (not my favorite uncle) has been pretty good in this regard, and the console hasn’t even launched.  This kind of fan-base attention is the stuff I love to see, and it makes me happy I sat in line for 12 hours in freezing rain in the middle of Delaware for my system…OK, it’s true, that still blew, but this is still nothing but great stuff.  Keep it up, gents!

Is to me a step in the right direction.  Sony actually supporting homebrew apps on their next gen linux based console, is nothing short of a revolutionary leap forward in console design.  Whether they deliver on this has yet to be seen, but from a competitive standpoint, they have to adopt linux in a hard way, and make their ps3 interoperable with other linux computers, and as robust as modded xbox’s.  There’s a decent discusison of this over at joystiq, check it out

wii are the knights that say….

Just a quick post to stay on top of this… nintendo’s conference just concluded, and I have to say, lackluster graphics aside, I’m very impressed with their offering.  Like they did with the DS, they’re taking an innovative step forward within the confines of proven stability.  The controller looks robust, and a whole lot more fun than a gimmick.  There is motion sensing in the nunchuck portion as well as the wiimote, and a built in speaker in the controller (in addition to rumble) for added immersion.   That, and the games look very fun, and very easy to pick up and party with.

Will try to look at this a little more in depth later, but first to wait patiently for microsoft’s moment in the sun.

Pimp my mech

Or, as pointed out to me:  "E3 is christmastime for Khidr"

OXM has word that Sega is dropping a chromehounds demo for E3.  As a fan of the original four mechwarrior games, and a complacent fan of mech assault (always felt a little too arcade-ish, but mechassault 2 was designed very smart with it’s sense of scale) I’m looking forward to the return of hulking tactical mechs in the sub-200.00 price range (read steel battalion)

Check out the story here.

Sega, you dirty diiirty little company.

From the desk of double dipping comes this gem of a story from the company who brought you "exclusive back catalog distribution on the revolution Wii, no wait, the 360 can have it too… "

Apparently, that neat 360 exclusive "Full Auto" that we’ve all been hoping would get a nice spruce up in it’s second life, most certainly will… just not on the same console everyone who’s already played the game owns. Check out the story gakked from joystiq

But, you said I wasn’t like all the other consoles.
