Joystiq has their meta-review link up for Saint’s row…  here

And I have to say I mostly agree.  I’d been hankering for some urban sandbox action on the three-sitty, and this hits the spot.

I really have to take exception to the 1up review though.  It’s cool that they’re docking it for unoriginality, that seems fair and all, but that review is really an indictment of the genre, and the last paragraph really shows the reviewers bias.  If you want an open ended game that you can endlessly replay, jump online or just make pedestrians leap 15ft barriers in fear, it’s a great game.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with perfecting a genre, and as of now, this is the one to beat.

We’ll see what Just Cause, Crackdown, and GTAIV have to offer the mix…

So what would you like to see in the ultimate urban sandbox adventure?

Virtual Zombies

I recently had the opportunity to play through the demo of Dead Rising posted on Xbox Live (and can I get an Amen for the ability to download demos on your console!), and I can honestly say this is everything I wanted it to be.  The zombie carnage alone is hip and engaging, but the interactivity with almost everything in the mall, and the awe-inspiring sound design make this a great FEELING title.  (I’ve always been a huge fan of sound design throughout the years, as it makes or breaks most gaming experiences).  Nevermind the sociopolitical commentary that was thoroughly explored in the Romero movies (although early reports say the narrative is well-told and has a smattering of these elements), this is all about zombie-whackin’, and man is it ever done well!  I can’t wait to get my hands on this one.

What are your thoughts on the demo?
