Curb Stomping your Persistent Elite - Or last week on Live.
From Kotaku:
Last week’s Xbox Live numbers are in, and Gears and Rainbow Six have nabbed the top spots. I can only imagine that this is in part, because these are the only two games I own. (I jest, I also own Table Tennis, Saint’s Row, Oblivion, and that other tennis game), but really, it’s just Gears and Rainbow Six. I guess what’s really interesting to me is that GRAW2 is well down the list after C&C, Guitar Hero II, COD3, and minigolf. Even more surprising is that Oblivion made its way to the top 10.
That would be, Oblivion, the single player game with nothing to do on Live other than buy more Oblivion stuff.
So what do Gears and RSV get right? In Gears’ case, they’ve sold a ton of copies of the game, and they continue to release new, free content adding to the playability of the competitive modes. If you have this game, and you haven’t checked out “Annex” yet, do so, it’s a great compliment to the other modes. Gears also has an extremely fun co-op story mode, which no doubt accounts for some of the traffic.
RSV also has some descent co-op modes, including Terrorist Hunt and story mode. No doubt there’s been a spike in people playing Terrorist Hunt since Ubisoft “fixed” the bug that allowed people to stick rubber bands on their controllers, go to bed, and wake up to a newly ranked up character. The competitive play is also unsurpassed in terms of variety, the necessity of team work, and the overall balance of the maps. Adding the $10.00 map pack/game mode addition that recently dropped, adds even more replayability to the game (I bought this pack, even though I thought it was pricey and am happy I did, the game modes alone really add something special although 600 MS points would’ve been nicer).
