Catan is the new Uno! Now with more sheep.

Catan is the new Uno.

I downloaded this xbla title last night sight unseen since there was no demo, and couldn’t be happier with my 800 point purchase. Well, I could be happier if it was a 600 point purchase, but that goes for just about any content. Anyway, this game does everything you’d want it to do. It’s got a very slick interface, a decent tutorial built in, well balanced AI at each level of difficulty, and, while I only toyed around with the single player last night, the game even has a built in emoti-message thingy where you can throw hearts or angry faces at other players to let them know how you feel. Also, like Uno, the game offers a friendly buzz of your gamepad when it’s your turn, in case you’re maybe not say, carefully scrutinizing the other players’ every move on the wait to your turn.

It’s simple fun with lots of strategic challenge. The only things I would add would be camera support, and downloadable content in the form of the extremely popular expansion packs: Seafarers and Cities and Knights. Both of which would be totally doable, and add even more to the replayability of this game. At any rate, fully expect to see me burning through my free time on this one. It’s a must have.

p.s. sorry dragonwyntir, in Uno’s defense, the music is not nearly as infectious (irritatingly catchy).
