S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

My super negative knee jerk review -

Maybe I play too much cod4 on my 360. Maybe I’ve been out of the PC shooter game too long. All I know is I went into my STALKER experience last weekend with high hopes and a sense I got a steal (19.99 on steam). The experience began with a bit of a misstep, the game had to be downloaded, deleted and downloaded again, as the first time didn’t work, and I couldn’t get the game to launch. After that, the game started smoothly; and really continued my sense of “awesome” with the whole steam experience. I especially like that the download process also takes care of the install, so once it’s down, it’s ready to go. Continue reading

I wanted to hate Burnout…

…but a snobby developer that pays attention to the quality of their product can’t be ignored in this day and age of waiting for a Mass Effect title update that probably won’t come.

For those of you that aren’t aware, Criterion pushed out their Bogart update this past Friday (at about 4PM EST).  As you’ll see below, they aren’t in the business of letting their game be anything less than a quality experience…

WinMo7 possible in 2009

I’ll make this a quick post; CNET has an article regarding a recent visit to Redmond by a gentleman from PocketNow, and his experiences with Windows Mobile 7.  Of particular note is the (admittedly older) link to the leaked screens of Windows Mobile 7.  If you’ve even had a passing interest in motion controls and Smartphones, both articles are definitely worth a look.

SuperAwesome JapaneseKid SoundtrackExtreme!

Mega Man 3 has easily one of my favorite game soundtracks from the NES days.  It was incredibly forward-thinking and surprisingly rocking for how limited the musical creation tools were for NES devkits (Apparently I’m not the only person who thinks so).  How appropriate it is, then, that someone took that soundtrack, and squeezed whatever small bit of coolness I found out by replacing the “instruments” with (as Capcom’s blog so appropriately put it), Japanese chipmunks. You Got Wii on my 360!

I’m sure you’ve heard at least a small bit of rumbling about this lately, but this article seems to be the one to best capture the current state of the rumors that Microsoft is in fact creating a Wii-like wand controller for the Xbox 360.  I’m praying to whatever Gods will listen to me that this isn’t going to happen, but it would seem the source hasn’t been wrong yet… Continue reading

Viewfinder vs. Photosynth: FIGHT!

Downloadsquad just posted a story today regarding Viewfinder.  Succinctly,  Viewfinder takes an uploaded image and matches it to a spot in the world through the use of Google Maps.  While I’m highly skeptical of the power of such a system, it sounds like it would be incredibly cool if they can pull it off, not to mention take some guesswork out of forensic investigations involving photos :-) . Playstation Store Redesign, April 15th!

The news is popping all of the internet, the redesigned Playstation store launches April 15th!  W00t, ladies and gentlemen.  This has been a long time coming, and has some great features such as integrated preview screenshots/videos of content, and in-line icons that show already-purchased and soon-to-be-purchased items.  And best of all, it looks FAST!  *fingers crossed* Continue reading
