.mp4 stuff streaming to the 360

Hola folks!  In honor of tygerfyr’s yearning for having the 360 do absolutely everything as a digital media hub, I found a link when perusing the web that details how to get .mp4 files to stream proper (and play properly) when streamed to the Xbox 360.

A couple of notes about the registry.  The registry file that is referenced here isn’t actually a file, but rather the contents therein.  To create this beauty, simple open up Notepad, copy and paste the contents between

“————-MP4_to_WMP.reg————————-”

and

“———————————————————–”

and save it as MP4_to_WMP.reg somewhere on your desktop.

NOTE: Make sure that you get the prompt that yells at you about changing the extension!  If not, Windows will have changed the REAL extenstion to .txt, and you won’t be able to add it to your registry. (You’ll also see that you’ve done it correctly because the icon for your new registry file will look like a blue evaporating cube instead of a notepad).

Once you save this file, simply double-click on the file.  It will ask you if you’d like to merge this with your existing registry information.  Agree to it, and you’re off to the races.

When the whole process is complete, this should allow you to both watch .mp4 files in Windows Media Player, but they will be viewable at your 360 when added to your Windows Media Player library.  Try it out and tell me how it works for you!
