NXE 2009 Preview Program Impressions

Can’t a guy just get to bed at a decent hour?  After a somewhat ho-hum episode of FlashForward last night, I stopped my Windows Media Center Extender DVR session on my Xbox 360 and booted back to the dashboard, ready to do a quick check for new content before SleepyTime.  Alas, I was kicked from Xbox Live and prompted for an update!  Almost 2 hours later, here’s what I stumbled across.

As a sidenote, I have NOT tested the Facebook app, Halo Waypoint, or the MSNBC.com news feed.  (In short, I am not a Facebook member, and the other two options are not available as of yet).  Moving on…

Aw man! Time to pony up for them 360 accessories again…

For those of you that might be familiar with a recent post of mine, take heed: Microsoft isn’t a big fan of such things any longer.

Major Nelson just posted on his blog that as of the new system update being sent out (first to Preview Program participants but then to all by the end of November) to all Xbox 360 consoles, your “unauthorized memory unit” will no longer be accessible through your console.

Metacritic Scores and the New Generation

I truly hope someone creates a band with that sweet name.  :)

The holiday gaming season of 2009 is upon us,  and as always, I continue to scour the Interwebz for review scores of fellow journalists and game reviewers to see if my hard-earned gaming dollar should be allocated to this title or that.  In addition to some of my favorite mainstays (Ars, IGN, and Joystiq being the heavy hitters), I always mosey on over to Metacritic to see what the greater populace is saying before making the final decision.

Summer of 2009 in Review

Like all things it seems motion picture quality seems to be cyclical, the films of summer 2009 seemed to be the dip from 2008’s creative heights. Not that it isn’t expected. Historically, whenever there’s a new presidential term of promise, societal art almost always takes a hit (everything has its price, it would seem).

And considering how much bank people shelled out, in Hollywood’s eyes the price was worth it. Without further ado about nothing, it’s time to look back on the midsummer movie dreams, along with beginning and end of summer, of course.

Do keep in mind this list only comprises of films I saw (alas no District 9).  I have my own neurotic reasons for not seeing it, but I promise, gentle reader, that I will rent it on DVD.
But this isn’t about me…
