I find that funny considering that Stephanie Meyer swears up and down that she has never read a vampire novel, and that the whole concept started from a dream. I guess it is true what they say: there are no original ideas anymore.

Oh I love True Blood. the Southern Vampire series is on my "To read" list for sure. I watched one episode of the Vampire Diaries and realized I didn't like it. I cliff noted them for now, so I do know about some of the inconsistencies. As for the Twilight movies.. they are good background noise or mindless entertainment when you need a moment to be mindless.
 <a href="http://shelf-life.ew.com/2009/07/31/neil-gaiman-why-vampires-should-go-back-underground/" target="_blank">http://shelf-life.ew.com/2009/07/31/neil-gaiman-w...</a>
The above article is such a great read by one of my favorite authors, and I absolutely agree with him. The entertainment industry have a way of taking something good and sucking all of the coolness out of it.

I would painfully admit that the movie was not extremely horrible, though I did drink a lot of crown for courage so I could be overselling it. If someone were to strike a deal in order to watch the movie it should be that this week you watch Twilight, next week you watch Twilight with the riff trax commentary, have a drink and enjoy the brilliance.

So really check out the southern vampire series by Charlaine Harris- it is worth it. True blood is a really good show as well, however, after the first season they mix a lot of the mythology up (not in a bad way though) and it does not follow the book so close. Vampire diaries are supposed to be good as well- way better than the glam show on CW.
One final note, check out the movie Troll 2- the kid in this film is named Harry Potter- and he wants to be a wizard.
hmmmm....

Congratulations to Stephenie Meyer for taking ideas and specific situations from other author's books and putting her name on it. Any story with a weak willed main female character that is completely at the mercy of a man is something that all young women should aspire to be.
Bravo. Now bring on the fourth movie so we can all actually see how someone goes about eating a baby out of a person.

Around my house we have found striking similarities between what was written in twilight and two other books: the vampire diaries and the sookie stackhouse southern vampire series. Many of the situations and characters seem like they might have been "inspired" by the two, which pre-date twilight by 13 years and 4 years respectively. I have not personally read them but my wife would say that the Vampire diaries are pretty decent and the Southern Vampire series is quite excellent, with the exception of the most recent book 11 which seemed to be a bit rushed.
